    Who We Are. . .

The Region 10 Council on Developmental Disabilities is a grassroots organization. Members are people who have developmental disabilities, or are parents, guardians, and other family members. Members are also employees with public and private agencies that purchase or provide services and supports on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities and their families.

OUR MISSION

Region 10 DD Council has a responsibility to learn from persons who have a developmental disability and from their parents & family members, about their needs and desires, and to help promote the creation of supports and services to meet their needs by careful planning and networking of all resources available.

    OUR VALUES

We value the right of persons with developmental disabilities to make decisions and choices about their lifestyles.

We value the right of persons with developmental disabilities to live in a community that allows them to be productive, inter-dependent members of that community.

We value the right of persons with developmental disabilities to have access to all of the programs and facilities within the community that is enjoyed by all of its citizens.

We value the right of all persons to be unique and to be valued for their individual talents and contributions.

     What We Do . . .

ADVISE

The Council was created, in part, to provide advice to the Department of Mental Health, the Division of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, the Central Missouri Regional Center and the Marshall Habilitation Center.  The Council provides input into their priorities, policies and budgets in hopes that their services will be provided in a person-centered and family-centered manner.

ADVOCATE

The Council works with local, state and federal officials to promote positive change through legislative work.  We sponsor public forums and events, trainings and workshops to help individuals and their families understand the legislative process, and their legal rights within various developmental disabilities "systems".

CONNECT COMMUNITIES

We help people find resources in their communities, and we provide information on regional programs and services.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

The Council has annual projects that are designed to help create new programs and services, such as People First groups, parent support groups, or Senate Bill 40 boards, or to empower individuals and their families by providing information they need to advocate for their own needs, such as legislative or special education workshops.  These projects change each year, and the Council provides them in response to the needs expressed by individuals and their families.
