July 16: Suicide in College - A Networking and Training Retreat

August 7: Understanding and Preventing Suicide
Web conference, starting at
1:30 PM CDT
This free web conference will feature a special 28 minute video presentation of "Understanding and Preventing Suicide" a new film which highlights the lives of three individuals who made serious suicide attempts and lived. The video presentation will be followed by additional suicide prevention information and resources presented by Elizabeth Makulec, Executive Director of KUTO (Kids Under Twenty-One). August 9: First Annual Kaitlin Harris Foundation Trivia Night
St. Louis, Missouri
An evening of fun, games and entertainment to help support the Kaitlin Harris Foundation, which provides education, resources and support for adolescent suicide prevention and awareness. August 19 & 20: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop
Creve Coeur, Missouri

August 22: Suicide in Jails and Prisons - Prevention, Intervention & Legal Issues

Suicide in jails and prisons is a major public health problem. This nine state regional conference features nationally-known speakers that will highlight the best practices in prevention and interventional strategies which can be easily applied in the correctional system. September 7-13: National Suicide Prevention Week
September 14: 5th Annual Remembrance Walk
Kansas City, Missouri
The Remembrance Walk, for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, homicide, or other traumatic death, will be held at Loose Park in Kansas City, Mo. October 5: Out of the Darkness Community Walk
St. Louis, Missouri
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a 3-5 mile scenic walk taking place at Forest Park and in more than 100 communities across the country this fall. Proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, to fund research, education, survivor and awareness programs — both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide. November 22: National Survivor of Suicide Day
Nationwide
The tenth annual National Survivors of Suicide Day will connect survivors from across the country through a live national satellite and Internet broadcast, allowing survivors to share their experiences of loss. Visit the AFSP website to learn how to organize a local conference.

December 14: Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Event
Communities across the globe will be joining in The Compassionate Friends 12th Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting on the evening of December 14th to remember and honor the memories of all children. For information on local events visit the Compassionate Friends website.
