The Licensure and Certification Unit provides the Department of Mental Health oversight for community providers serving persons with mental illness and with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in the state of Missouri. This oversight assures that providers maintain compliance with applicable state standards and that they remain consistent with the Department of Mental Health's vision and values.
The Licensure and Certification Unit performs the licensing activities for community residential facilities, group homes, semi-independent living facilities, family living arrangements and day programs. A Department of Mental Health license is required when the consumer population meets a designated threshold of persons with diagnoses of mental illness and/or mental retardation/developmental disability. Licensure is not dependent upon any contractual relationship with the Department of Mental Health. The Licensure and Certification Unit also performs certification activities for providers participating in the Medicaid Home and Community-based Waiver program through he Division of Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities.
The Unit has three regional offices, located in Jefferson City, St. Louis and Kansas City.
