Criminal record background checks are available through the Missouri Criminal Records Repository maintained by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The general public may obtain conviction information on felony and aggravated misdemeanor arrests that are reported to the central repository.

Two types of searches may be conducted: (1) a Name Search, or (2) Fingerprint Search. A name search requires the name, date of birth and social security number to search the database. There is a $5 fee for the name search. A fingerprint search utilizes a set of fingerprints against the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) database. A $14 fee is required. Positive identification can only be assured by a fingerprint search.

The Comprehensive Background Check Request form only allows for name searches. For more information about fingerprint searches, please contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol at (573) 526-6153.

Individuals that desire in-home services for a child, senior or person with disability may request a state criminal background screening through the Missouri State Highway Patrol by completing the Caregiver Background Screening form. On average, information from Missouri Criminal Records Repository takes approximately 15 working days to process from the date of receipt of the request.
