Located on Hospital Drive, next to the University of Missouri Hospital and across the street from the Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital, Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center (MMMHC) provides acute psychiatric inpatient services to children and adults. MMMHC is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is Medicare/Medicaid certified.

MMMHC is one of eleven state-funded psychiatric facilities operating within the Department of Mental Health. Through cooperative agreements with the University of Missouri-Columbia, MMMHC offers training opportunities in several health care related fields, including psychiatry, nursing, and social work.

The 69-bed mental health center was built in 1967 adjacent to the west wing of the University of Missouri Hospital. The three adult inpatient psychiatric units provide short-term intensive care for individuals 18 years and older. Forensic pre-trial evaluations are also completed at MMMHC. Children’s services include inpatient and partial hospitalization to children ages 6 to 18 years. A Dual Diagnosis Program, located in Marshall, Missouri is jointly staffed by MMMHC and Marshall Habilitation Center for clients that are mentally retarded/developmentally disabled and have psychiatric problems.
