WHO WE SERVE
Acute Services: There are 60 licensed beds for short-term clients with an average length of stay of five to seven days. For admission persons must be at least eighteen years of age and assessed as needing inpatient or residential psychiatric services that Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center has the capacity to provide. Involuntary admissions must meet the legal requirements of Missouri statutes. We primarily serve the 31 Southeast Missouri counties designated as the Southern CPS Region.
Forensic/Long Term Care: There are 98 beds for long-term treatment services. Must be 18 years of age or older and from the Southern CPS Region. Forensic clients have been adjudicated as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, incompetent to stand trial, or in need of inpatient pretrial evaluation. Non-forensic patients are referred from Acute Services after demonstrating need for long-term psychiatric hospitalization due to chronically dangerous behaviors and ongoing impairment in social functioning or daily living skills due to mental illness.
MI/DD Services: There are 20 beds for MI/DD services, which serves persons with developmental disabilities and mental illness. It is a residential level of care. Persons are voluntarily admitted to this program to obtain psychiatric treatment and skills training needed for eventual movement into the community. Admissions to the Mental Illness/Developmental Disabilities (MI/DD) program are pre-arranged. MI/DD admissions must be registered clients of a Regional Center, be referred from a habilititation center, or be at risk of transfer to a habilitation center.
